About Author Emma Alice Johnson
Emma Alice Johnson lives in the woods of Wisconsin where she grows wildflowers and talks to bees and butterflies. Sometimes she also writes.
Emma Alice Johnson’s writing spans horror, science fiction, bizarro, comedy, nonfiction and more.
She is a two-time Wonderland Book Award-winner for best bizarro fiction. She has published 10 books with a variety of independent presses such as Eraserhead Press, Bizarro Pulp Press, Severed Press and more. Her short stories have appeared in more than 75 publications, including Dark Matter Presents Human Monsters, The Dark, Dark Discoveries and Year’s Best Hardcore Horror. Her work has garnered acclaim from Publisher’s Weekly, Hellnotes, Horror News and more.
Her latest book is Unicorn Wasteland from Everybody Press.
She is an avid zinester and has created a wide variety of zines, mostly about punk rock and monsters. The first issue of her zine Freak Tension was published in 1998 and ran for 15 issues. Since the early 2000s, she has been a regular contributor to long-running DIY punk zine Razorcake.
In 2015, she founded Weirdpunk Books. In 2018, she turned the press over to Sam Richard, who has turned it into the powerhouse of transgressive fiction that it is today.
Emma’s Wildflower Farm is devoted to the protection of endangered insects through the preservation and proliferation of plants native to Wisconsin. Her farm is on the site of a ghost town and features a historic Victorian farmhouse built in 1893. Support Emma’s Wildflower Farm on Patreon.
When she is not planting or writing, Emma obsesses over weightlifting, dinosaur books, black and white comics from the 1980s and obscure low-budget movies.
